We have a lot of job opportunities, such as the hospital, the schools, and many other small businesses. Just having a job makes one set when it comes to money up here. A lot of people here like to go into the building companies. If they are making concrete, cutting wood at the wood mill, or even helping out making the houses here. Another job here is to work in one of the mall shops around downtown and the area. Most are family-owned, or have been passed on from generation to generation.

Mining Employment

Employment in Ishpeming has been going down in the past years because of the economy problems. But the main thing here still is the mine. Most of the past miners now work at the Cliff Shaft museum, where they show items and tools that they used in the past. They also do tours into one of the mines, so one can get to feel how grubby and dirty and dangerous the job was.
